The contractor-employee dilemma: can you have the best of both worlds?

“Thanks for reaching out. The role sounds great – though I’m averaging $5K+/week & enjoying the flexibility of contracting.”

A recent reply from a Behaviour Support Practitioner.

My first thought… wow, I’m in the wrong industry! Though of course, costs & super etc all need to be taken into account.

In speaking with BSPs, many seem to move into contracting & often quite early in their careers.

Some love the independence & earning potential. Others find they miss the support, benefits & team culture that come with being part of an organisation.

We’ve had candidates share that while they enjoyed contracting for a “season”, they felt their career somewhat plateaued during that time.

Interestingly, we’re seeing a bit of a shift – more BSPs & other AHPs are expressing interest in returning to permanent roles.

Are you a former contractor turned employee? A contractor for life? Is it possible to have the best of both worlds?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
