Exercise Physiologists: Eligibility to Perform Workplace Rehabilitation Services in NSW

ESSA-Accredited Exercise Physiologists (EPs) are some of the highest-performing Rehabilitation Consultants in the industry. With strong clinical skills and positive personal attributes, EPs have the potential to thrive in workplace rehabilitation.

To perform workplace rehabilitation services in NSW, EPs must be approved by SIRA to conduct functional and workplace assessments. For more information, including a list of approved universities and courses, please visit the ESSA website: HERE

For EPs who have completed an approved course in the assigned years, your course should have included a workplace rehabilitation component. Please contact ESSA to be issued with a SIRA certificate and Workplace Rehabilitation number ([email protected]).

For EPs who have completed a course not included on the list, or whose graduation was outside of the approved years, you are required to upskill by completing the Occupational Rehabilitation & Assessment modules at ACU. Courses are run online and require 2 days of attendance on campus at ACU, Strathfield. To enrol, please send a request to ESSA ([email protected]).

Completion of the course is highly recommended. As many degrees now incorporate a workplace rehabilitation component, it may not be available in years to come. Additionally, it will significantly improve your employability in the industry and count towards your ESSA Professional Development points.

Please note, SIRA certification for workplace rehabilitation services is separate from SIRA certification for EP treatment services. Please contact SIRA directly to register for EP treatment services ([email protected]).

Should you have any questions, please contact ESSA directly or one of our team will be happy to point you in the right direction.
